On April 1, 2024, the two-year project Game MAgiC – Mindset Agility Creator, initiated by Offenburg University of Applied Sciences and funded by the “Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschule”, was launched. The aim is to promote the gamification of teaching and apply it in various subject areas in an exemplary manner.
Gamification for more motivation and commitment
Game MAgiC – Mindset Agility Creator is a project for the implementation of gamification approaches in university teaching at Offenburg University of Applied Sciences. Abstract and technically demanding learning content should be conveyed in a playful way. The aim is to use gamification to motivate students to learn and encourage them to engage in the course. The content is conveyed through gamified elements such as competitions, levels and ranking lists, the effectiveness of which will be evaluated during the course of the project.
Gamified topics include project management and media technology. The gamified content can also be accessed via the Moodle learning platform during the course of the project. With the help of plug-ins, students will learn about other ways of imparting knowledge. In addition, the development of guidelines for the organizational implementation of gamification in university teaching is planned.
The project, which is funded by the Foundation for Innovation in University Teaching, will run for two years. It should be completed in various project stages by March 2026.
The project managers are Prof. Dr. Oliver Korn, Olga Zabello and Sofia Hämmerle. Dr. Oliver Vauderwange is also involved in creating the teaching content and doctoral student Stefano Gampe in gamification.
